Our Minister – Rev Sophia Lizares
You will usually find our minister, Rev Sophia Lizares, in the midst of it all. On Thursdays, she’d be catching up with the community at Marty’s or at the Op Shop, on second Saturdays at Craft & Chat, and on Sundays, leading our worship.
Prior to arriving in Perth, Sophia lived in Germany where she served as Asia Secretary with United Evangelical Mission, consulting with churches on development, ecumenical partnerships and personnel exchange. She has worked as a journalist and editor, founding an independent news and features agency in her home country, the Philippines, where she also corresponded for international news agencies. She heard God’s call to lay and ordained ministry in the midst of her engagement with justice and theology. Her first role as ordained minister was Chaplain at Uniting WA where she worked with people experiencing homelessness.
Sophia, her husband Geoffrey, and their terrier Pip, split their time in the Perth Hills and a small farm in the Chittering Valley. When they’re not at work, they aim to get in their 10,000 steps on the Heritage Trail. In the Valley, they are likely to be on the deck, meandering around rocks, trees and paddocks, or lining up a three-point linkage. She has swallowed flies and has attended the birth of a calf.
She’d love to hear your story. Call or drop her an SMS on 0409 804 558.
